(CMR) A 12-year-old boy survived a horrible ordeal on the weekend after being kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and then shot as he walked home from meeting friends in Florida.
Investigators from the Miami-Dade police said the incident happened around 2:30 am Saturday as the boy was walking in the area of Northwest 43rd Terrace and 30th Avenue while returning home after going to meet with friends, NBC Miami reported.
The boy was approached by a man in a black, 4-door sedan who forced him inside the vehicle and drove him to an empty lot in the area of Northwest 45th Street and 31st Avenue, where he was sexually assaulted in the back seat of the car.
The boy was found wandering on the streets by a man on a bicycle who brought him to a convenience store where they called 911.
Using DNA evidence, police arrested 43-year-old Aliex Santiesteban on Tuesday and charged him with several counts, including sexual battery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and attempted murder.
“This is a reminder to parents and children to be vigilant because in this world, there are evil people who will not hesitate to harm children,” MDPD Director Freddy Ramirez said at a news conference Tuesday.
“This is extremely disturbing, and it hits you at the soul. No child or family should ever suffer the horrors that they went through. This child suffered physical and emotional trauma that will take years to overcome,” he added.
